China is becoming a more popular destination for overseas students to study, thanks in part to the high reputation of its educational institutions. Chinese universities are well-known for their outstanding programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Although China's medical school system has greatly improved in recent years, the quality of healthcare in China still differs greatly across the country. 

International students are recommended to seek health insurance in China. Hospitals in rural Chinese locations may not offer all of the amenities one would anticipate, so it's critical to choose a health insurance plan that would cover transportation to a different site. 

Hence, international students must obtain both individual accidental injury insurance and health insurance in China. These can be obtained either before or after arrival in China. According to Chinese legislation, international students residing in China for more than six months must obtain health insurance for the duration of their stay.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Education requirements, every international student studying must be covered by private health insurance in China. The sponsor organization or school may provide a group insurance plan at a reasonable rate. However, group plans typically have limited benefits and limits; for example, they may not cover pre-existing diseases or chronic medical disorders. 

 Although it is not required by the Chinese Ministry of Education, you may wish to consider health insurance in China that includes medical evacuation, repatriation, and emergency help, because not all hospitals and clinics in China have Western-standard medical facilities.

• A good insurance policy for international students can also cover vaccination coverage, mental health coverage, interscholastic sports coverage, and much more.  
• A private medical insurance plan can also come as a group insurance plan and a single insurance plan.  
• In China, the major insurers who can cover international student health insurance to mitigate emergency medical treatment, repatriation, or medical evacuation are China Life Insurance, China Pacific Insurance, People’s insurance of China, and Ping.

How to apply for health insurance in China for an international student?  

International students can purchase insurance in their home country and carry it with them to China. It must cover accidental injury medical treatment and inpatient medical treatment. Also, coverage of more than 400 thousand RMB for the greatest single item was reimbursed.  

Those students who have not come with an insurance policy can go to their university’s admission office and submit paperwork and required documents from which they can purchase a local health insurance policy for CNY 300 per semester. The insurance premium per half-year costs on average CNY 300 for a semester.  

Requirements for applying for health Insurance in China for International Students

All international students who travel to China to study for six months or more (X1 visa) must get a: 

• Medical check-ups either before or after entering the country. In some situations, you must first pass a medical exam before applying for an X1 visa. 
• You must present the Foreigner Physical Test form, which certifies that you passed the physical examination. The completed Foreigner Physical Examination form must be submitted with your visa application. 
• Following, students must also have health insurance. 
• You will need the residency permit to enter or depart China within 11 months so that you may return home for the holidays. To find out if this is a requirement, contact the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in your native country.  
• If it is, you should go to the closest hospital for a medical evaluation. Remember to request that the doctor fill out the full form. It is also critical that the hospital attaches its official seal with your image as indicated on the form. If this is not implemented right, you may be compelled to retake the examination, either at home or in China.
