The full form of IELTS stands for English Language test for study, migration, and work. Bypassing the IELTS exams with a good band, you can study at top-ranking Colleges and Universities in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, The United Kingdom, and The United States of America.  

IELTS exam formats? 

In the IELTS, you are tested on your abilities to listen, read, write and speak in English. The grades of IELTS are from 1 to 9.  

  • One point signifies test taker cannot use language except some isolated words, 
  • Two means the test taker has great difficulty in understanding spoken and written English, 
  • Three means there are frequent breaks down in communication except in some familiar situations,  
  • Four means test takers are good as of number 3 scores but show the problem in understanding and expression,  
  • Five means the test taker has only partial command of language and copes with overall meaning in most situations,  
  • Six scorers have effective command over languages despite some inaccuracies,  
  • Seven means test taker has operational command of the language with occasional systematic inaccuracies, and they can misunderstand something in unfamiliar situations, 
  • Eight scorers is a very good test taker with fully operational command with sometimes unsystematic inaccuracies.  
  • Nine is the best scorer with a fully operational command of the language, uses English fluently and accurately, and shows a complete understanding of the overall situation. 

What are the eligibilities for IELTS exams? 

To become eligible for the IELTS exam, the candidate must be at least 16 years of age and have a valid passport. Two types of IELTS meet two different perspectives.  

  1. The first is IELTS Academic to enroll in a Country where most communication is in English and  
  2. IELTS General training for those going for work- or work-related migration and movement in English-speaking countries.

IELTS exam dates and exam centers

In Nepal, the British Council offers the IELTS test in 6 official languages at six authorized test centers from Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Butwal, Birtamod, and Biratnagar. The computer-based test center is only in Kathmandu, while the paper-based test is at all locations above.

How to prepare for IELTS Exams to get good scores? 

There are two ways the candidates must go through for preparation and planning to get a good IELTS Exam score which are: 

Phase 1 before the test: 

  • Read many English articles and journals and underline fewer common words while reading. 
  • Always check the unknown meaning of the word in the dictionary 
  • Know about different IELTS test formats 
  • Never stop practicing; keep on at regular time frames 
  • Use techniques like skimming, scanning, and intensive reading to understand the meaning of words. 

Phase 2 during the test: 

  • Read all instructions carefully 
  • Underline the main information and make notes of the passage 
  • Use time management skills to divide and work on questions accordingly 
  • Transfer all answers to answer sheets without leaving any empty spaces. 
  • For reading, ask clarification or repetition from the examiner if there is difficulty in understanding the question 
  • Please pay attention to one’s body language 
  • Use neutral tones while speaking 
  • Keep the essay within the word limit 
  • Keep track of your time 
  • Limit comments to 200 in the writing task 
  • Take 3 minutes to revision of your work 

How to see IELTS Test results

IELTS results will be available for paper-based tests on the 13th day of the test date. The result will be available in 3-5 days at the test taker portal for computer tests.
