IELTS or PTE?

Although the two tests look the same as an English Language proficiency test, however, they are different in their major aspects which we cannot overlook. These things are discussed here: 

IELTS

PTE

IELTS exam is the older and most widely known version of the test format. It was introduced in 1989. Three organizations jointly own the IELTS exams which are British Council, Cambridge Assessment English, and IDP Education. Although the IELTS test is the same separate dates are announced and conducted by IDP Education and British Council. 

PTE also known as the Pearson Test of English was launched by Pearson Education in 2009. It has 250 test centers in about 50 Countries as compared to IELTS test centers which are more than 800 test centers in more than 130 Countries. 

IELTS online exams are always free and offline exams are 180 Dollars in Nepal 

PTE online exams are not free (328-385 AUD) with the inclusion of a 10 percent tax. 

Most experts believe that due to the holistic nature of IELTS exams they have more accepted. All Universities and education providers accept IELTS scores as criteria for admissions 

PTE is still not being accepted by many large Universities as it is new in comparison to IELTS  

IELTS tests have face-to-face speaking assessments which are stressful for students and take 2 sittings of exams. 

PTE test the speaking test is graded by a machine and it only takes one sitting of the exam 

IELTS Computer test results are available in 3-5 days period 

PTE-A results are available within 48 hours of exams and PTE results within 2-5 days only. 

IELTS Center has good support for candidates with disabilities  

PTE exam center the disability accommodations are limited  

If you don’t have enough General Knowledge, write in complex grammatical structures, and hold up conversations while speaking you can avoid IELTS  

If you have typing errors, bad pronunciation, and English fluency and don’t watch western media or read western articles, you can avoid PTE. 

IELTS exams are recognized by 140 countries, including The United Kingdom, The United States, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.

PTE accepting Countries are Australia, USA, Ireland, UK, Singapore, New Zealand, and Canada
