The upcoming crisis at Tribhuvan University: Central departments without students

Although Tribhuvan University (TU) is filled with challenges, for the majority of students, attending TU has always been a source of pride. Students from all around the nation have been coming to TU for many years to study and earn their bachelor's or master's degrees.

Nearly 80% of Nepal's overall student population attends the institution, demonstrating how it is well-received. However, things haven't been looking well lately because TU enrolment has dropped dramatically. Despite a slight decline in enrolment, according to Dhurva Kumar Gautam, head of TU's Planning Directorate, administrators do not anticipate significant effects on the university. Tribhuvan University adopted the semester model, according to the majority of department heads and academics at TU, which caused a drop in enrolment. If there are less than 10 students, the institution says it won't hold the class. There is, however, one exception. Even less than 10 students may be enrolled at TU if there are sufficient permanent teachers in the department and there is a possibility that they could lose their jobs. However, under that circumstance, the department is unable to hire part-time instructors. The situation is so bad that some departments just have one student, while others have none at all.
