CESLAM Kathmandu Migration Conference on 15 and 16 February 2023

CESLAM (Center for the Study of Labour and Mobility) Kathmandu Migration Conference is scheduled to take place on the 15th and 16th of February 2023. This conference aims to bring together attendees who have conducted research on migration for their Masters and Ph.D., both within and outside the university settings. The focus of the conference is to present and discuss papers on various aspects of migration, including student migration, internal migration, foreign labor migration, and Nepali migrant communities.

The venue for the conference is the Social Science Baha, located in Kathmandu, Nepal. This gathering of researchers and experts will provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experiences related to migration.

The conference will feature several panel discussions on different themes. One of the panels will focus on the health and well-being of migrant workers, addressing the challenges they face and potential solutions to improve their overall physical and mental well-being. Another panel will delve into the topic of cross-border mobility and human trafficking, exploring the dynamics, patterns, and implications of human trafficking in the context of migration.

Experiences of migrant workers and their families will also be a prominent topic of discussion, shedding light on the social, economic, and cultural dimensions of migration and the impact it has on individuals and communities. Additionally, the migration process of Nepali men and women will be examined, highlighting the specific challenges and opportunities they encounter throughout their migration journey.

The conference aims to foster dialogue, encourage collaboration, and contribute to the existing body of knowledge on migration. It provides a valuable opportunity for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to share insights, engage in critical discussions, and develop innovative approaches to address the complexities of migration in Nepal and beyond.

By bringing together experts from various disciplines and backgrounds, the CESLAM Kathmandu Migration Conference seeks to advance our understanding of migration and its multifaceted impacts on individuals, societies, and economies. It is anticipated that the outcomes of this conference will contribute to the formulation of evidence-based policies and interventions that can enhance the well-being and rights of migrants while promoting inclusive and sustainable development.
