Health insurance for international students in Italy

Health and medical insurance is important that one who has decided to pursue their higher education should be completely aware of the health insurance available for international students in Italy. A student who studies in Italy will also be exposed to a healthcare system that is very diverse just like the Italian citizen.  Healthcare is a mixture of private and public facilities. Nonetheless, as a worldwide understudy who is wanting to study or visit Italy, the two principle visas that you would apply for both require verification of global wellbeing and travel protection inclusion. Probably you will apply for a Schengen Visa (for ventures as long as 90 days long) or for a National Visa (which will cover any excursions over 90 days).

The immigration law requires you to take out health insurance during your stay in Italy.

You can either take out private insurance through an Italian insurance company when you have reached Italy, that will cover urgent medical assistance in the Emergency Room (Pronto Soccorso) of any hospital or If you take out private insurance in your country, it needs to have the following requirements:

  • Should have the holder’s name in western characters.
  • Should be written in Italian or in English, French, and Spanish.
  • Should have validity in the Schengen Area/Italy.
  • Should  mention the exact coverage period (it must be not less than 6 months and a maximum 1 year)
  • Must include the type of coverage for the medical expenses.
  • Lastly, it should be endorsed and stamped by the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your country.

If any international student has a document that explains their right to health assistance signed by Italy and one’s own country’s Italian embassy on the basis of treaties and bilateral agreements, can show this document to make use of the health services stated in the agreement.
